August, 2005

7:20am Palmer had a good nights rest, and yes no fevers! Amen Thank you Lord Jesus! Palmer's ANC is 200 and moving the right direction. We just had a new med student come by to check her and she is still asleep, asked if he could come back later. ACH is a teaching hospital so we see new faces all the time. Palmer always smiles and complies whatever the request. Because Palmer is still neutropenic we take precautions limiting her visitors, making med students come in without their lab coats, and hand washing a lot. Palmer's day in and day out care is brought to her by the fantastic nurses of 3 Gold - caring, compassionate and competent they are all tremendous. Being here as long as we have you also get to know your neighbors and share with them in the ups and the downs. It is very different "being on the inside looking out" as one Mom described it. She further reflected how she used to see the commercials for St. Jude's and all those bald kids and think how sad and challenging that would be to have a child with cancer, never imagining that she would learn first hand of that journey.

People say all the time "you guys are amazing for living out your faith in this", truth is God's mercy and grace make it possible, and it is for His glory. I reflect on the joy that Mary felt when she was told that she was going to be the mother of Jesus, then to learn years later the great agony of the fulfillment of that joy. God was at work bringing about His purpose. Our hope is in this son of Mary who is the Son of God. We trust and know that his plans for Palmer are indescribable and unfathomable and will prevail, we Trust Him. Palmer's life belongs to Him so really we are not amazing at all, He however is! Philippians 2:8-10 And being found in appearance as a man,he humbled himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth.

4:30am  No fevers in the night - I am excited - had to let you know. Thanks for praying. I am going back to sleep. Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

7:05pm Has been a very restful day. Not a lot to report. Palmer's counts are improving her ANC was 143 today. Palmer walked the halls again today, we also got to see her bone marrow aspirate slides from when Palmer was first diagnosed. We both got a lesson in blood cell biology. Lori Ann is back in Fort Smith today. We are hoping that we can all be together very soon, possibly even this weekend. Thank you all! Psalms 138:8 The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me; your love, O LORD, endures forever—do not abandon the works of your hands.

1:50pm No early morning update - no early morning fever, in fact no fever at all! Amen - Praise God! This morning Palmer has had blood, platelets, CT scan, Liver function. Her scan test came back no increase in infection - good news. Liver function is improved! Palmer even did three laps down the hall - have not done that in weeks. Today is 21 days in the hospital. Seems like so long ago that Palmer came in on Angel flight on August 8th (also our 19th wedding anniversary) We are all ready to escape! Palmer is sitting up and is perkier today (technical clinical diagnostic observation - perkier) We love to see a smile. Palmer right now looking at the Williams-Sonoma catalog, thank you to whoever sent her the catalog and gift certificate. Thank you all for your love, encouragement and intercession.

Please www.prayfortaylor.com still in PICU on ventilator fighting at many levels - infection, bleeding ulcer, blood pressure, sedation meds. Please pray for Breanne who will be undergoing stem cell harvest Wednesday, pray for a plentiful harvest!

4:00 am We are up and Palmer has a fever 38.5, gave tylenol and are waiting for it to break. She is tired of these fevers and wants them to go away so she can have a "regular" nights sleep. Pray for her and the fevers, as long as they continue we know her infection is still working on her body and her body is so weak already. Will update more later.

7:00pm A quiet day today, Palmer ran another fever this afternoon not as high. Tommorrow will be a busy day we know from her counts she will need both blood and platelet transfusion tomorrow, she is also scheduled for more testing including liver function and another CT scan of her lungs. Evening and night seem to be hardest because her antifungal meds start around 6:00 and she usually is flush and does not feel so great when they get into her system. Please join us in praying that Palmer's own immune system will kick in and rebound which will make her antifungal meds all the more effective in concert with her own immune system in shutting down the fungus. Humble thanks to all who lift Palmer's life and need before our Lord. We are blessed! Scott

Lori Ann

4:00am Palmer is now sleeping well same high fever around midnight. Tylenol sometimes ineffective, gave motrin-ibuprofen and fever broke. They don't like to give motrin because it uses up platelets. Palmer had three platelet transfusions within 24 hrs on Thursday, so her platelet count was as high as it has been in 6 months. We will burn a few platelets to help break her fever. They believe the fevers primarily are her body fighting the fungal infection. Thank you all for praying - We never cease to be amazed at how Awesome our God is! Psalms 27:13-14 I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.

6:45pm Palmer is just hanging out waiting to cook up some WBC. Palmer ran fever about 4:00pm, overall still not feeling too perky. Taylor is unchanged from last night which is good. Want to introduce you to two other very special young people. This young lady I have only met once but she is all sunshine and encouragement. Thank you Sarah for Palmer's flowers and balloons they made her smile real big. Sarah you have an incredible servant's heart - it shows. www.PrayforSarah.com Also we just met Elijah and he too was all smiles as you will see from the pictures at www.PrayforElijah.com great to meet you Britt & Dawn. Please pray for both of these special young people and tell everyone you know to do the same.

8:30pm Palmer has spiked another fever and she is running them almost every 4 hours, about the time her meds. wear off. We will treat again and wait for it to break. We are praying for a fever free night. Lori Ann

9:00pm Sorry I have been so slow to update it has been a very busy day. Palmer is doing OK she is sore from the biopsy and is still running fevers. The highest of which was about midnight last night. Today we have seen a number of new doctors from infectious disease and opthamology and more x-rays of her chest as follow up. Her eyes where OK no infection and got a baseline before the antifungal meds began in full. Talked with her doctors about the seriousness of fungal infection in her lungs they have described it as a fungal pneumonia. The meds she is taking put her under the oversight of infectious disease doctors and they are only available if they approve them. We really like her doctor from their group. We are still kind of taking in all the events since Wednesday and are very tired, as is Palmer of course. The fastest way to overcome this fungus is for Palmer's WBC (white blood cells) to rebound and cooperatively combine with the intended effects of her meds. Her ANC is about 20 needs to move upward quickly. It has taken her a long time in the past - please join with us in asking the Lord JEHOVAH-RAPHA "The Lord Heals" to make Palmers body restore quickly and completely.

As I write this update I am sitting in the room with a precious boy named Taylor who is in PICU and is fighting infection. Palmer and Taylor have AML in common. Taylor came through the ER early Wednesday and got sicker very quickly. They are backing his meds back and his fevers are not as high. He is on a ventilator now and his body is resting and fighting the sepsis. Please www.PrayforTaylor.com and his mother & father Tony & Cheryl, they just took a break together while I sat with Taylor. There is no way I can tell those of you who have never known the agony of heart in caring for a sick child what that experience is like. Yet God's grace is so everpresent and sufficent it is unexplainable. Taylor's parents are an encouragement to all the families on 3Gold.

Yesterday was one of the hardest days Lori Ann and I have experienced in a while. We had a heaviness of heart and an exhaustion that is hard to put into words - tears where more adequate. I must share with you in the midst of that, Palmer's wonderful Mom, my precious wife with tears streaming down her face said " I am so ready for this trial to end, I would like the Lord to end it. He knows we are going to give Him the glory no matter what happens to Palmer. We will praise Him no matter what" that is the faith of Palmer's wonderful mother and I am so blessed by her absolute trusting faith. Lori Ann is the most substantial person I know and all of us in the Richardson 6 are blessed by her faith and trust.

4:00am The early morning update, Palmer has been sleeping OK, she has just run another fever and is anxious about this mornings happenings. Lori Ann arrived after we got word yesterday. I was going back to Fort Smith but we really felt like we need to be here together with Palmer. Thanks to MiMi & Poppy for making life as normal as possible with Hayden, Baker & Sutton. Thanks to all at Zimmer Wilkins for making it possible for me to stay. Palmer really brightened yesterday when her Mom hit the door earlier than expected. Palmer has a great Mom - and I share the blessing of being her husband. Lori Ann truly is that Proverbs 31 woman, and she has stepped it up another notch this year. We covet your continued prayers today. Thank you!

11:10 We are waiting on more platelets. They want her count higher before they do the biopsy. We have talked a lot and prayed this morning with Palmer - Our God is Awesome. Please www.PrayforTaylor.com  he is in PICU and is really battling right now. He came through the ER Tuesday night fever/neutropenic and obviously very septic. Please pray for Taylor!

2:05pm We left Palmer in the room for CT guided biopsy at 12:15 they have called in the last 10 minutes and said they are about halfway complete. Let you know more soon

3:40pm Palmer is out and we have her back in her room. They got a sample and believe it is fungal and hope it is treatable with meds, we start 2 new ones today. We are checking vitals signs often and are doing chest x-rays tonight and in the morning. The infectious disease doctor feels like it is Aspergillus a type of fungus and treatment is directed accordingly. They will try to grow a culture from her biopsy but could take several weeks. Course of meds could be several months but does not all have to be administered in the hospital. Will be watching for fevers to end as an indication the antifungal meds are working. Thank you for praying!

Psalms 65:4-5 Blessed are those you choose and bring near to live in your courts! We are filled with the good things of your house, of your holy temple. You answer us with awesome deeds of righteousness, O God our Savior, the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas

5:00 am Palmer has had a good night sleep thus far. We just had our early morning talk - she and I both seem to be awake at the same time - I am sure it has nothing to do with my snoring :-) Please www.prayfortaylor.com he came in through the ER fever/neutropenic got antibiotics started pressure dropped and had rigors. Went down to see him, he is stable but headed to PICU this am. He is really upset because he has seen and heard about all these other kids going to PICU. Taylor is Palmer's age and also has AML(Acute Myeologenous Leukemia). Thanks for loving on us, lifting us to the Father, and blessing our family with your kindness and generosity.

Thanks also for the encouragement in your notes in Palmer's guestbook. Blessings to you all!

4:30pm Very busy day, I think we set a record for the most doctors seen in one day. Palmer has an infiltrate/lesion in both lungs. A larger area in the left lung (looks golf ball size on CT), smaller in the right. They believe it could be fungal, however could be wildcard bacteria. They have for the first time decided to give Palmer a drug called neuprogen that will stimulate her WBC to rebound. Tomorrow Palmer is going to have general anesthesia and a CT guided biopsy of this growth to get a specific id on organism for treatment. They have told us it could be something that is treatable with targeted meds, however it could be a type that would require surgery - specifically a thoracotomy and meds. We hope to have more direction tomorrow. Palmer's oncology doctor shared all this with her and she was stoic until he left the room and she was overcome with emotion and tears. She has been so strong and trusting through this whole process and had hidden in her heart that the end was near. I can't begin to tell you all the emotions I felt as her admiring father. Palmer is such a blessing to us and we know that her life belongs to the Lord. We confidently trust in Him. We are blessed thank you all. Please Pray for Palmer's emotional, spiritual, and physical protection.

8:30pm Oh yeah Palmer got platelets today, and ate better - they had been discusiing putting her back on TPN (IV liquid food) holding off if she will eat.

Psalm 116:1-2 I love the LORD, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy. Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Sneak Peek   www.palmerrichardson.com/video  (tip-the smaller the picture the clearer the video)  Don't forget Palmer"s Guestbook

4:30 am Palmer has been running a fever through the night, more blood cultures, continued antibiotics etc. It may be breaking right now. Something still happening in her precious body. I love just sitting here watching Palmer and imagining all that God has planned for her life. Being with her is such a blessing. I will confess I am not as good as Mom in the caregiving department - but I am competent ;-). Lori Ann and I visited last night and she said it's time for us all to be together under one roof - I agree. Thanks for loving on Palmer the way you do - here name is constantly before the Father. I borrow from the encouragement you have each shared with us. Psalm 32:10 Many are the woes of the wicked,  but the LORD's unfailing love surrounds the man who trusts in him

These guys are out of PICU www.prayfordakota.com and Zach www.prayforzach.com  - Praise God!

2:15pm We are waiting to get a CT scan of most of Palmers body. She has not shown anything in her cultures, yet still running fevers. They want to see if there is anything else going on in her body and rule out possibility of fungal infection. hey plan to start Palmer on an antifungal drug this evening. We have avoided this drug thus far, it's nickname is "shake & bake" because you can experience rigors and high tempature with this med. Please pray for Palmer's protection from the meds negative effects and that her CT scan will be clear. - Palmer's Dad.

8:20pm Early CT findings indicate evidence of a fungal infection in both lungs. We will have official results tommorow. Also we started the antifungal meds (amphotericin B) about 6:15 things went smoothly for an hour then Palmer began very strong rigors and had lessened oxygen saturations. Stopped med ampho B and gave fluids and demerol to stop rigors. She calmed down and stopped after about 30 minutes. We will see how Dr. Saylor's believes we should proceed tomorrow. Palmer went from feeling really bad to sitting up and eating pop tarts and talking to me now. Please pray that the "official results" come back negative for the fungal infection and that Palmer has a great night fever free. Thank you to the body of Christ.

Want to introduce you to our newest neighbor www.prayforElijah.com  Please pray for Elijah and his family this is a brand new journey.

4:00 am This must be my new morning hour to be up! We are up drawing CBC for today and I just helped Palmer get up and she can tell her hemaglobin is low because she feels so weak. All to say we will probably get a unit or two of blood today sometime. My heart is heavy and my mind is on all the kids up here right now, just feeling that each one needs prayers. I just heard the Angel Flight helicopter come in and land, bringing another child to the hospital - we know what that is like!! I will update later on Palmers day, we are so blessed and thankful to all who lift our family and Palmer up in prayer, Thank you.
Lori Ann

4:00am Palmer has spiked another fever. We are up drawing more blood cutures and CBC to check on what the new infection is doing in her body. Please continue to pray for her healing and the infection to be treated by the antibotics she has on board right now. We will update later today on her progress. Thank you to all who lift her up each day. We are Blessed.

11:30pm Palmer had a rough rest of the day. Her CBC showed she needed platelets and her counts are still very low. Combined with the infection, she did not feel so great today. We waited on platelets all day, the hospital was out and got them around 8:30 tonight. We were just glad to get them on board so her platlet count would be in a better range. Please continue to pray for all the kids on 3 gold, it seem like everyone is here right now and all sick and struggling with their own disease. Keep lifting up Zach,Dakota,Trey,Brianne,Taylor,Chase and all the new families on the floor. With your prayers and encouragement we all get through another day watching and caring for each of our children as they go through this journey. Thank you and we give God all the glory for all he continues to do.

Lori Ann

Palmer's fever broke about midnight. Thank you for praying last night after I posted. She was feeling better today, has 2 antibiotics going, cultures came back with a new infection - a gram positive strain. She was 16 hours without fever and at 4:00 hit 102. Thank you for honoring us with your prayers and love. As I have indicated before we are tired (very) and sometimes feel overwhelmed, but still we trust. We never knew the conclusion of treatment and subsequent hospitalization would be like this. Truth is we have to take it one day at a time because we never know what to expect. I will update more tonight if there is anything new to report. Our God is Awesome. The Richardson 6

You know the old adage no news is good news. Normally that is true, and was up until last night. Palmer has hit a fever of 102.7 tonight. She also had a rough night last night up a lot with a fever, lights on doing blood cultures, pumps beeping lots, etc. - basically no rest and knowing fever means something is going on. Her doctor started different antibiotic this morning. Feeling worst yet in a week tonight. Not going home just yet, and further course of action we will see. Please pray that the Lord will surround Palmer with his angels and protect her physically, emotionally, spiritually - and the same for Lori Ann. We are restricting visits now so please email us or post to Palmer's guestbook. Thank you.

2 Corinthians 10:3-4 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds  - AMEN

Isaiah 54:17 No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD,and this is their vindication from me," declares the LORD ----- Awesome!

Palmer has had a good day. She is hanging out with Dad right now instead of Mom. I am thankful for this time with Palmer. Lori Ann and I rotating back and forth to ACH. Thank you MiMi for coming once again. Palmers echocardiogram results came back and her heart function has improved while she has been overcoming the sepsis. Dr. Saylors is on service this week and we will more than likely be here at least all week. We sort of guessed that coming in the door the way we did. Remember that I told you Palmers hair was reappearing - well I take it back this round of Ara-C is having it's effect. Palmer just smiles and says that's OK I know it will grow back when I am done. This floor 3Gold and the kids and families on it sure help you keep the important on the front burner. I have said a lot this year the stuff I worried about last year is insignificant this year. Love on your loved ones and seize the day, encourage someone! Please continue to www.prayforzach.com and www.prayfordakota.com also for Breanne who is having her stem cells harvested so she can have an autologous transplant in October. Peace and Blessings to you each.

Galatians 6:9-10 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

Palmer is doing good today. She is off TPN (food supplement) and had echocardiogram again today to check her heart function. We don't have results compared to last week yet. Palmer is still bottomed out on white blood cells and her doctor has plans to keep her at least until this weekend, could be longer.

We need you guys to Pray fervently for Zach and Dakota both have been moved to PICU.  www.prayforzach.com and www.prayfordakota.com

Exodus 15:2-3 The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my victory. He is my God, and I will praise him; he is my father's God, and I will exalt him!  The LORD is a warrior; yes, the LORD is his name!

Palmer is doing well. She had a good nights sleep and likes hanging with her Mom. The other kids and I are headed back home today. Palmer is getting another platelet transfusion today this is the 5th platelet transfusion this week. Thank you all for praying and loving our family. Our God is Awesome!

Please remember www.prayfortaylor.com & www.prayforzach.com. Both these guys are slugging it out on the floor with Palmer.

4:45pm - Palmer is doing much better. Her doctor came in this morning and asked how the other guy looked. Palmer is quite bruiesd on her face from her fall. Her chin, eye, and check look like she had a part in Rocky. She is a little sore all over still but very much better, sitting up and smiling! Things are quiet around here on the weekend. I am headed back to Fort Smith on Sunday with the kids. We do not know how long Palmer will be here but it will likely be another week at minimum. The doctor's are careful to never commit even when we try to pin them down, knowing that things can change so quickly and not wanting Palmer to be at risk of additional opportunistic infection or other complication. - I am sure that it surprises all of you who know us that we would try and pin Palmer's doctors down ;-) - Thank you to all who lift us up in prayer and encourage and serve us. Thanks Mom & Ellen for coming, we loved seeing Mark, Shelli, Cole, Chase, Carson, Madsion on their way moving from Houston to Nashville. Please pray for Matthew Evans family for peace and comfort, his battle with cancer has ended.

Thanks Chase for coming by to see Palmer and bringing her the stuffed puppy and smiley face balloon with the band-aid! www.prayforchase.com

2:30pm Palmer is out of PICU - Thank you Lord!!! She has just moved over to 3gold and is eating for the first time this week. Food is flying everywhere - Emily & Hannah you guys have seen her eat - it's kind of scary. Her overall condition has improved greatly. She is off all the meds that supported her blood pressure. She has still got antiobiotics, TPN (liquid food- looks like gatorade), and some medicine that improves her heart function. She is smiling and talking some - I love it! Thank you all for your prayers to our Awesome God.

I need you to also pray for Matthew whom I mentioned last night, he is still in PICU, he is one of the special young people from 3Gold. His family has been told by the ICU doctors that he has less than 24hrs to live. Please pray for healing from the fluid and malignant cells in his lungs. His mother & father are grieved and in a daze. Please pray for Matthew E. and his family. There is a real comraderie amony the families here who fight this enemy of cancer.

10:15am Palmer had a good night. They are backing down on her meds, her foley catheter is out, antibiotics are targeted to her infection. They are giving her nutrition to support some calorie intake. She is talking a little bit today and is a little more aware. Lori Ann stayed all night, she won't leave Palmer's side. I spent the night at the Gilliams with the other kids. Thanks David & Vanessa, Cameron & Whitney for letting us merge into your family and for loving us. Thank you to everyone who is praying for Palmer and our family. We are really tired and kind of walk around in a zone that feels like the twilight zone, but we completely love & trust our God. His perfect plans cannot fail. Thank you for lifting our hands when we are too tired to hold them up. Thanks Kevin for your testimony on Sunday I was totally unaware and totally blessed by your faith and trust. We have never thought long on why, but we do ask the Lord to show us how. He alone is faithful to bring it to pass!

Please also www.prayforzach.com and www.prayforchase.com  also leave them a message on their sites guestbook if you would like!

Palmer has had overall a good day and we are thankful, she continues to improve. I need you all to pray for Matthew right now he is one of the 3Gold kids and is in PICU and is in very critical condition. Please pray for God to heal him and to bring peace to his family.

10:45am Thank you for all your prayers, Palmer has improved. The drug dopamine they have backed off, she is only on the norepinepherine now to keep her blood pressure up. Palmer has only been semi-consious sine we found her after falling on Monday. This morning Palmer was more aware, they are treating Palmer's own heart effeciency with medication after an echocardiagram yesterday. Her own heart was working hard to pump blood but was not doing so on it's own very effectively. She is still fighting the infection and they are narrowing the target antibiotics to the specific bacteria that caused the infection. Our other kids are being raised by Vanessa right now, they are in the competent hands of a vegetarian (inside joke) :-) Palmer complained of her bed, and she is now sleeping on an air bed. I know many of the kids who read this log don't understand all this.

For the kids - Palmer got an infection in her blood, her blood pressure was low which made her dizzy and she fell. She was really weak and needed medicine and fluids in her body. They did not want to bounce her all the way to Little Rock in the back of an ambulance so they called for the helicopter. The helicopter has two pilots, a doctor, and 3 other medical people so only Palmer would fit on the helicopter. She got here fast and they where telling her jokes and helping her all the way to the hospital. Then they brought her into PICU - pediatric Intensive Care Unit - which just means they give you lots of attention and watch you extra close. There are lots of doctors and nurses looking at you all the time and asking how you feel. Palmer is getting to sleep a lot until she wakes up and feels better. After she feels better we will go to 3Gold where Palmer has spent lot's of time and everybody knows Palmer and loves her. She is really popular up here and everybody likes to see her smile. Thanks to all the children who pray for Palmer. Luke 18:15-17 But Jesus called the children to him and said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it."

I am sitting here hearing the helicopters landing and am reflecting on this journey we call life. Truth is, in this life we can see here and now, it has joys and disappointments,  it will end. Then there is life that will not end, and that life is found only in Jesus. The living water that he alone gives. He is Life without end. Hope is only found in Him!

Isaiah 53:5  But he (Jesus) was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.

John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me

9:00 am Palmer is stronger and more stable this morning. Thank you to the Angel Flight team and her doctors and nurses in PICU for working her so diligently. We have an unbelievable asset in Arkansas Childrens Hospital. It is like the 4th largest childrens hospital in the nation. Lori Ann stood vigil with Palmer all night and I grabbed a little sleep. I hope Lori Ann will go and get some rest in a short while. Thanks to David & Vanessa and Jeff & Jana here for taking our other children and bunking them and taking over for us. Lori Annn and Palmer where going to stay at home and the other 3 kids and I where going to bust toward Branson yesterday afternoon. Obviously we had a significant change of plans. The other three Hayden, Baker, and Sutton have had their world altered in a major way this year and it has been hard to balance all the things that demanded our attention. The kids where pumped about a road trip as they have done very little of the "normal" family actvities this year. Life has not been normal. This was our vacation week and we had to cancel our Destin, Florida trip. We meet special friends every year there and are missing not being with you guys and getting my normal harrassment. See Gilmore you did make the log! Thanks Van for your kindness yesterday and for getting the word out. Thanks to Ed for just being there until Angel flight lifted off. The body of Christ never ceases to amaze me - it is so diverse, alive and functioning, more than we will ever know this side of heaven. Thank you Lord Jesus that you never fail or forsake us!

1:45pm Palmer is infected and has grown out gram negative rods. Have not isolated the specific bacteria yet, getting broad coverage antibiotic. May have intestinal infection as well, still working to get her blood pressure to stay up. Giving her another 100ml bolus of 5% Albumin, increased her dopamine dose again. she is not through this yet, and is not as strong as she was this morning. Thought we might get out of ICU today doesen't look like it right now. Thanks for holding up her hands.

8:00pm Lots of activity today. Palmer is stable - she has an arterial line in to more closely monitor her pressures, she got another line in for blood and other fluids, she also started norephinepherine with the dopamine to keep her perfused and fight the sepsis. She also is catheterized now and is taking medicine to improve her heart effeciency. Just now started lasix to help her get off all the fluids she has been getting, she will get platelets again shortly. PICU is all new to us and is a very active place. Palmer could be here all week, we will see. Thank you all for your prayers, love and encouragement!

2:30pm Long night of checking. Palmer moved near our 101 degree threshold. Today she has hit it this afternoon and is very lethargic. Lori Ann is preparing to take Palmer back to ACH right now, we called Dr. Stine and he is expecting her. Palmer's ANC has bottomed out. Please pray as they travel and arrive back at ACH. This could be a long stay. Please pray -we are past tired, past exhausted, and feel the pressure of so many other things that are just part of life. Thanks for loving us! The Richardson 6

6:45pm We did not make it to ACH we had to go to ER at St. Edwards, Palmer is going to transport from Fort Smith to ACH by helicopter. Lori Ann and I will be going over in two cars I am headed over now to be there when Palmer lands. Please pray, Palmer is stable but very sick. Will update events later.

11:30pm Palmer is in PICU and is getting fluids, dopamine, vancamyicin, albumin, oxygen and other stuff.  Palmer is in a condition described as warm shock or septic shock. See http://www.drkoop.com/ency/93/000668.html  They are working her hard here in ICU and the angel flight crew worked her on the way here. I arrived just as Palmer hit PICU and it was great to see her. Lori Ann stayed with Palmer in Fort Smith until the helicopter took off about 8:30pm, then left driving to Little Rock. Both of us where driving when our little girl took off without us.

Summary - Palmer was lethargic all day and hit 101 degree about 1:30 I came home as quickly as I could and checked her again and got 101.1. Lori Ann and I both knew we had hit the magic number and called Dr. Stine at Childrens he said bring her on in. Lori Ann and I where loading the car and Lori Ann came back and noticed Palmer was not in her bed. She hollered at me to come quick and we found Palmer crumpled up on the floor next to the potty. She had hit her face, chin, and head hard and she was totally unresponsive. I got her up and on the bed her coloration was very dark and her lips where blue. We could barely get her to open her eyes, we called Dr. Stine and he said go directly to local ER. I had to carry her to car and into ER. Staff there where great got antibiotics and some fluid started. Her platelets where low and they took CT of her head and abdomen to rule out internal bleeding. She was clear - Praise God. Angel flight team from ACH came to get her, worked her up, took over her care and got her into PICU and they are working her here right now. We never imagined at the start of this day that it would go like this. Thank you Lord for your mercy & grace in the midst of times that seem like a roller coaster ride. We choose to listen to the voice of truth even "when the winds and waves go wild, sometimes he calms the storm, other times he calms his child"

Palmer has not felt well today. She is about 12 days out from start of chemo and everything is bottoming out. She is in the danger zone and we will be taking her temperature in the night. Please pray for no fever and infection. She as do we, very much want to finish this out at home, not back at ACH. If you are reading this at ACH you all know we love you, just don't want to see you! Job 11:15-16 Then you will lift up your face without shame;you will stand firm and without fear. You will surely forget your trouble, recalling it only as waters gone by.

Palmer has had a good day today, she has felt suprisingly well. We started the day by taking MiMi to the airport, thanks Mimi for caring for Hayden, Baker & Sutton for the last two weeks while Palmer received treatment. Tonight Palmer wanted to plan, shop, and make dinner. She watched a lot of the food channel over the last 6 months and she likes to cook. She grilled ribeyes and made a bernaise sauce, baked potatoes, and a wonderful salad. We all enjoyed her efforts. It was really emotional leaving ACH for the last planned time. Our nurse who admitted us on the 18th of February also gave Palmer her last treatment. We finished in the same room as well. More of the Lord's favor that is so obvious. Please continue to pray as Palmers counts will probably bottom early this week. Pray for no fever or infection. Thank you all!

Palmer is home. We got in around supper time and had a celebratory dinner at Rolando's. It was very exciting knowing we where leaving after her last treatment. We are trusting the Lord and asking that her leukemia is "as far as the east is from the west" and we ask it in the mighty name of Jesus whose is Name is above all names! Palmer has an appointment when her counts start to come back up and will have another bone marrow aspirate/biopsy procedure. Could be late August or mid September. We are wiped out tonight but will update more tomorrow. I promise we are also going to work on more pictures, it has been a long time since we have added any, and everyone gives me a hard time about it.

Hello all. Palmer has had a good day. She has tolerated both rounds of chemo today very well. She is ready to go home just a soon as she can. One more chemo round in the am and then a shot in her leg and we hope to roll out of here. They typically have an end of treatment party your last in house treatment. This has been a visit unlike any other, we know what to expect through experience, hard to believe it has been six months, and we see so many other children and families still in the thick of the fight. Please pray for Taylor he has the same disease as Palmer (AML), he has a major complication with his right eye which they first thought was infection related but have since determined it is a tumor that effects his optic nerve. He will have to have a biopsy/surgery and is at risk for loosing his eyesight. www.prayfortaylor.com He will be in the hospital on his 13th birthday 8/11. Pray for his physical healing and for encouragement for Taylor and his family. Also please www.prayforchase.com  who is battling relapse and will be in treatment every week for 104 consecutive weeks. Pray for Chase and his family for peace and to richly experience God's presence every day. Also please pray for the Daws family, their daughter Breanne has relapsed a second time and will undergo a stem cell transplant, this is her last line of treatment for a cure. Our God is able, and these children belong to him. He will be victorious and nothing can take them from His hands. Psalm 138:8a The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me;your love, O LORD, endures forever

Palmer is back at ACH. She started chemo (Ara-C) about 6:15. She has been laughing and goofing off and snarfing cheese dip from Juanitas until all her chemo got on board about 9:15. She became very nauseous and was not feeling good at all. We have her comforted and sleeping right now-thanks to a combination of meds.  We are back in the same room as she started this journey in. It is a blessing to finish her treatment where we started and spent the first 30 days of her care. It is hard to believe it has been almost 6 months. Today has been very peaceful we have sensed God's favor and presence all day in a very special way! Thank you to all who pray, serve, encourage, share so generously, write, call, email and honor us so. We are blessed by your kindness and love. In the day when I cried out, You answered me, and made me bold with strength in my soul. The Lord will perfect (complete) that which concerns me; Your mercy, O Lord, endures forever; do not forsake the works of Your hands." Psalm 138:3,8  (Thanks Allen)

Palmer is feeling pretty good. Got her bloodwork today she is already headed into neutropenic land. Her ANC increased to 3000+ as she started chemo a week ago. Today her ANC was 310. WE are headed back to ACH tomorrow, Palmer will begin chemo and will probably need platelets again before she gets to come home. Thank you all for praying. Please remember all the children on 3Gold at ACH, God has many angels at work in that place. This are His kids that are battling the enemy's cancer. Will update on Wednesday. Our God is Awesome!

Palmer is doing good. She has enjoyed being home. She does not have much of an appetite and feels kind of sick to her stomach all the time. She told me " I am getting kind of used to it" and smiled kind of half heartedly. Palmer is excited because her eyebrows, eyelashes, and hair are starting to reappear. Don't know if they will stay around after this round of chemo has it's effect but she has enjoyed seeing it beginning to come back. It's the big outward benchmark. The inward benchmark's are being developed day by day for our whole family. I spoke with a brother in the Lord the other day who has walked as a parent where nobody would choose to walk - they have lost a child. I listen when I am with him. He shared about the unbelieveable grace and mercy God provides in the very depths of brokenness. People say to them all the time " I could never do (walk, handle, etc.) what you are doing! To which he says that God would give you the same grace and provision day by day. He further shared I would not trade this closeness with the Lord for anything, yet I would not have chosen this path to experience it! I can only imagine this is the same sentiment God the father has for us, He Loved us so much and desired closeness with us that he gave his child so that we might be restored to Him. Unbelievable - Amazing Love!

Amazing love, how can it be. That You my king would die for me? Amazing love, I know it's true. And It's my joy to honor You. In all I do I honor You ...(song)
